ASTORIA — A dentist's office in the neighborhood will open its doors for one day next month to offer free cleanings, X-rays and other services to uninsured residents.

Steinway Family Dental Center, on Steinway Street between Broadway and 34th Avenue, will host "Free Dental Day" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 3 for adults 18 and older who lack dental coverage, according to the practice.

The office, which has been in the neighborhood for nearly two decades, hosts the free days twice a year to offer assistance to those who otherwise can't afford preventative care, according to spokeswoman Cindy Karathanasis.

"There were so many people that would come in, and they were uninsured," she said.

The practice's dentists volunteer their time for the day and usually see around 40 patients, she said.

They're willing to perform any procedure that can be done in one day — including cleanings, fillings, oral exams and X-rays — and will also offer information on proper brushing, flossing and other dental care techniques.

While the office will accept walk-ins, they recommend that people schedule an appointment ahead of time, since spaces fills up quickly.

You can make a reservation by calling the practice at 718-728-3314.
