LOWER EAST SIDE — The Pickle Guys have moved from their longtime Essex Street digs and are now open for business at a new shop at 357 Grand St.

The pickle and horseradish purveyors on Thursday opened the doors of the new storefront, just two blocks from the former location at 59 Essex St., and will continue to serve up barrels of their trademark pickled vegetables while planning an eatery at an attached space, according to the manager.

Manager Mike Chu said the guys made the move because the lease was up at the old space and the new spot is even closer to the Seward Park Co-op, where a large chunk of their fan base resides.

"It made sense to come here, and we'll be here for another 10 to 15 years," said Chu.

The shop is currently in a "soft opening" phase, said Chu, and the Pickle Guys will celebrate a grand opening within the next few weeks, though a date hasn't been set.

Meanwhile, a restaurant attached to the pickle shop is in the works, confirmed Chu. The shop is still deciding what kind of food will be served — possibly burgers — but the cuisine will definitely include the famous pickles, said Chu, who noted he plans to consult community members on what offerings they would like to see.
