EAST HARLEM — A mailman delivering packages at an apartment building was robbed at gunpoint for his keys, the NYPD said.

The 39-year-old worker was walking into the George Washington Houses at 220 East 102 Street on Dec. 27 around 3:45 p.m. when he was followed into the building, police said.

Both men got on the elevator, but the mail carrier exited on the 11th floor while his assailant got off a floor above, police said.

The suspect then approached the worker from the staircase, displayed a gun and demanded the victim hand over his bundle of keys before fleeing down the stairs, police said.

Video surveillance caught the robber exiting the building.

Police describe the man as 6-foot-1 with black eyes and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with a burgundy hoodie, blue faded jeans and dark sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
