QUEENS — Sporting goods chain Dick's is planning to open its first Queens store at a Forest Hills building that was once home to its former rival.

Dick’s Sporting Goods will open at 73-25 Woodhaven Blvd., on the border of Forest Hills, Rego Park and Glendale, after Sports Authority closed last summer following that chain's bankruptcy earlier this year.

“The store is expected to open in the spring of 2017,” a spokesman for Dick’s told DNAinfo New York.

According to published reports, Dick’s Sporting Goods won the Sports Authority brand name and the right to acquire 31 store leases in a bankruptcy auction in June.

A store locator map for the chain shows that it will be the first Dick’s Sporting Goods location in Queens. It has only one other location in New York City — on Richmond Avenue in Staten Island.

The Forest Hills site became the subject of protests earlier this year when, after the Sports Authority closed, its parking lot turned into a "dumping ground" full of electronic debris and food waste. Owners of the parking lot later removed the trash.

The site has recently been fenced off as Dick’s Sporting Goods began construction work at the location.
