A Trump Presidency: Bracing For the Unknown

Even after more than a year of campaigning, The Atlantic writes that we still don’t really know where new president-elect Donald Trump stands on numerous policies or how he’ll move forward with a Republican party that did not exactly embrace him.

The takeaway from the election upset: “Americans have no choice but to hope for the best from the president-elect- and to prepare for the worst by reviving the constitutional system’s checks and balances.” [The Atlantic]

Hilary Clinton Seen Likely to Win Popular Vote

Despite Trump's edge in the Electoral College, Democrat Hillary Clinton is likely to become the fifth presidential candidate in history to win the popular vote but lose the Electoral College. [Wall Street Journal]

How Could the Polling be So Wrong?

Political experts are trying to explain the extraordinary reversal of polls many of which had shown Clinton ahead until Tuesday morning. Some indicated the possibility of “hidden Trump voters,” others thought that the surge in Trump’s momentum was related to FBI Director James Comey announcing 11 days before the election new evidence related to Clinton’s private email server — and then clearing her name again. First Somali-American Legislator Elected

Ilhan Omar won a seat in Minnesota’s House of Representatives, making her the first Somali-American legislator in the U.S.

“I bring the voice of Muslims. I bring the voice of young mothers looking for opportunities,” said the 34-year-old of her victory. [MPR News]

What Happens to Obamacare Now?

After six years of fighting, it looks like the GOP will finally get the chance to repeal the 2010 Affordable Care Act — commonly known as Obamacare— a vow Trump said he'll pass during the final week of his campaign.

Voters in California, Nevada, Massachusetts and Maine voted to legalize recreational marijuana on Tuesday, while medical marijuana was made legal in Florida, Arkansas, North Dakota and Montana. Canada’s Immigration Website Kept Crashing During U.S. Election

Higher than normal traffic to Canada’s immigration website caused it to shut down early Wednesday morning during the U.S. election. Canada’s IT team had to work through the night to get it back up and running, according to the BBC. It has been suggested that the problem stemmed from the threat of a Trump presidency, which has pushed some to consider moving to Canada. [BBC]

Clinton Supporters Are Flagging Organizations to Support

Clinton supporters stunned that Trump took the presidency are rallying around organizations they think will need some help with the GOP controlling both houses of Congress and the White House, according to Jezebel. [Jezebel]
