Murder Suspect Fleeing Police Crashes into Brooklyn Gas Station: Officials

By Aidan Gardiner | November 4, 2016 10:17am

BROOKLYN — A man wanted for a murder in Long Island crashed into an East New York gas station that then burst into flames while fleeing police Friday morning, officials said.

Robert Crumb fatally stabbed his 41-year-old wife and wounded his 16-year-old daughter in their Bethpage home on Seitz Drive about 12:40 a.m. before fleeing the scene in a Hyundai, according to reports and the Nassau County Police Department.

Crumb's 12-year-old son, who didn't appear to be injured, notified police, the Daily News reported.

Nassau County officers spotted Crumb parked on a nearby parkway, but he sped off when they approached, reports said.

They chased him onto the Southern State Parkway and then onto the Belt Parkway until he pulled off and slammed into an East New York gas station at Pennsylvania and Flatlands avenue, NCPD officials said.

A fire broke out in the gas station about 1:06 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

Crumb was critically injured, having suffered stab wounds to his neck and wrists, reports said. It wasn't immediately clear if those wounds were self-inflicted.

His daughter was treated for injuries that weren't considered life-threatening at a Long Island hospital, reports said.

Four others suffered minor injuries in the fire, an FDNY spokesman said. They were brought to hospital by Nassau County responders, the spokesman added.
