NBC Suspends Anchor Billy Bush Following 2005 Trump Tape

Billy Bush was been suspended from his job anchoring the 9 a.m. hour of NBC’s “Today Show" after being caught laughing and joking with Trump in the aforementioned recording. He’s been replaced with Al Roker, who sparred with Bush over his defense of Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte after he was arrested in Rio. Sources told CNN the suspension could turn into a permanent removal. [CNN]

Samsung Stops Making the Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone

After weeks spent trying to prevent its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone from catching fire, Samsung is permanently stopping production on the beleaguered device. Although the company had first indicated it would just be a temporary halt in production, the company decided to make it permanent because of customer safety issues, calling to mind another notorious product that didn’t quite work out: the Ford Pinto. Warren Buffett Releases His Tax Data After Trump’s Debate Comment

Businessman Warren Buffett voluntarily released his taxes Monday, after Trump said during the presidential debate Sunday that the billionaire investor used the same tax loophole Trump used to avoid paying federal income taxes. Buffett said that he has paid federal income tax every year since 1944, when he was 13. He also said that in 2015, he paid $1.85 million in federal income taxes on adjusted gross income of $11.6 million. [Bloomberg and New York Times]

New York Times Editor Told to ‘Go Back to China’

Michael Luo, the deputy Metro editor for the New York Times, was getting lunch with his family and friends after church on the Upper East Side Sunday when a woman yelled to him to “Go back to China.” Luo approached her about the comment but felt the interaction wasn’t satisfactory, so he wrote an open letter to her. NYC’s 'Hazy' High School Admissions Process Disadvantages Families

City high schools are supposed to give equal priority to students who attend an open house at the school and to those who attend a larger high school fair, but many aren’t following the rules, this report found. By favoring students who attend an open house, the schools are disadvantaging students who can’t make it, the reporters found. Students and schools are frustrated by the vague process, as one guidance counselor called it “a madhouse.” [The Atlantic]

Justice Department Launches Investigation into Inmate Treatment in Alabama

As a nationwide prisoner strike against unpaid labor enters its second month, the country’s justice department opened an investigation into conditions in Alabama prisons. The Department of Justice will look into excessive force and sexual abuse by inmates, and whether safe and clean living conditions are provided, it announced in a statement.
