EAST NEW YORK — A man was found shot to death in East New York early Saturday morning, and police say his alleged shooter is in custody after trying to flee the scene.

The unidentified 55-year-old man was found shot in the head in front of a residential building on Hendrix Street near Livonia Avenue around 4 a.m. Saturday, after the NYPD's ShotSpotter system picked up the sound of gunfire nearby, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the NYPD. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Police said they arrested a 21-year-old man trying to flee the scene, and a black handgun was recovered nearby.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
