GREENWICH VILLAGE — Two men stole $50 from the newsstand outside the West Fourth Street subway station on the northeast corner of West Third Street and Sixth Avenue, police said.

Police said the men approached the newsstand about 10:45 am. on Aug. 31.

One distracted the employee while the other, a 27-year-old, reached into the register and grabbed $50, police said.

The 27-year-old fled eastbound on West Third Street and was stopped at the northwest corner of Washington Square Park by an NYPD officer, police said.

Police said the newsstand employee identified the alleged thief on the street.

The man tried to flee by flailing his arms while he was being arrested, causing the arresting officer to fall and hurt his knee and arm, police said.

The suspect had an open parole warrant for an existing case in New York Supreme Court, after being indicted by a grand jury on one count of felony burglary in the third degree for an Aug. 2 incident in the 13th Precinct, police said.

He was charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, petit larceny and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors, after the newsstand arrest.

At his arraignment for the newsstand arrest, a judge set his bail at $1, on top of the bail for his Supreme Court case, which was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

He has not posted bail, according to court records, and is being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex.

His attorney for the newsstand arrest declined to comment. He is due back in court on Oct. 18 for the newsstand arrest, and Sept. 19 for the Supreme Court case.
