You may not have a direct line to Kayne West, but Mayor Bill de Blasio does.

In June, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted what appeared to be a facetious image of himself calling the rapper to discuss plans for a block party.

Now it turns out that phone call did indeed take place. The mayor's recently released public schedules for June reveal de Blasio spoke to Kanye for 15 minutes while being driven in his mayoral vehicle on June 17, Politico reported earlier this week.

Kanye had belatedly sought the mayor's permission to hold a flash party outside Webster Hall in the East Village June 5 after rain waylaid his scheduled set at the Governor's Ball music festival. The underground set nearly caused a riot in the streets outside Webster Hall, as Kanye's team sent out cryptic Tweets summoning fans to the venue into the wee hours. Webster Hall ultimately put the kibosh on the concert.

A video posted to Twitter past midnight on June 6 allegedly showed Kanye placing a phone call to de Blasio to discuss:

A spokesman for the mayor's office confirmed to DNAinfo New York that the politician and the rapper did speak about the potential of hosting a public event together. That event remains in the discussion phase, he said.

The city requires block party organizers to obtain a street activity permit from the Mayor's Office of Citywide Event Coordination and Management, with applications submitted 60 days in advance. The mayor's spokesman did not say whether Kayne or a representation has applied for one.
