MIDTOWN — A man told security at a Theater District church that he planned to give an employee there a Molotov cocktail as a “Christmas present,” the NYPD said.

The suspect entered the Times Square Church, an interdenominational church at 237 W. 51st St. and Broadway, at around 8 p.m. on Aug. 7 and told a security guard there, “I have a Christmas present,” police said.

He then told the employee that the present was a Molotov cocktail, and that it was meant for a church worker who police identified as a 52-year-old New Jersey man.

A security guard working at the church Tuesday could not provide information about the incident.

The church did not respond to requests for comment.
