STATEN ISLAND — A man fled police while driving a stolen car, running a red light and crossing into oncoming traffic, prosecutors said.

Officers spotted Nicholas "Spider" Webb, 31, behind the wheel of a stolen 2003 Saturn Vue near the intersection of Manor Road and Forest Avenue on Aug. 10 at about 3:35 p.m. and signaled for him to pull over, authorities said.

Instead he sped away, causing other vehicles to swerve as he crossed into the wrong lane and eventually losing the officers, prosecutors said.

Officers spotted Webb days later on Aug. 13 entering the car at Targee Street and Vanderbilt Avenue and arrested him.

Webb had crack, a glass pipe and the car owner's ID on him when he was arrested, prosecutors said.

He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance at his arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

Webb was held without bail and is due back in court on Friday, according to court records.

His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
