MOUNT HOPE — A man threatened to hurt a 12-year-old girl if she did not follow him into the stairway of a Bronx apartment building, police said.

The girl was inside of a building by 175th Street and Walton Avenue with the 20-year-old suspect on July 25 around 2:30 p.m. when he followed her into an elevator and said he would harm her if she did not follow him into a stairway, according to the NYPD.

The girl refused, ran out of the elevator, banged on the door of an apartment and yelled for help, officials said.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction, police said.

Officers described the suspect as a man with a slim build who was last seen wearing dark colored pants and a dark colored shirt.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
