STATEN ISLAND — A man followed a woman off a Staten Island bus, grabbed her cellphone and smashed it on the ground before running off, according to the NYPD.

The 23-year-old woman was on a S51 Bus from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal on June 23 when she got off near her home at Mason and Midland avenues.

The man followed her off the bus and then put on a white mask while she stopped to retrieve her house keys, an NYPD spokesman said.

“What the hell?” the woman asked.

“Don’t worry about it,” the man replied before snatching her phone and throwing it to the ground, the spokesman added.

He then grabbed the woman around her waist. She started screaming and the suspect ran away after several neighbors came out of their homes to see what was going on, police said.

The man was last seen wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and black jeans.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website.
