MIDTOWN — A man dressed in a lavender button-down shirt and a polka dot tie called 911 from the Waldorf Astoria hotel and told police a bomb was going to go off at Penn Station that evening, the NYPD said.
Video surveillance captured the suspect wearing a beige jacket, a long-sleeved lavender button down shirt, a black tie with white polka dots and black dress shoes enter the hotel at 301 Park Ave., between East 49th and East 50th streets, around 2 p.m. on July 26, police said.
At 4:26 p.m., the man dialed 911 from an extension phone inside the hotel and told the operator a bomb was going to go off at Penn Station at 7 p.m. that night, the NYPD said.
At that point, the man had taken off his jacket and put on a black cap with white lettering, police said.
He left the hotel a minute later without his cap on, revealing a partial bald spot on the back of his head, the NYPD said.
He was also carrying a brown briefcase and a white shopping bag, police said.
Police marked the crime as a false report.
The Waldorf-Astoria did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.
