Man Dies After Shooting Near Von King Park: Police

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A Bedford-Stuyvesant man shot near Herbert Von King Park died of his injuries, police said.

Binjeem Russell, 33, was shot in the back at the corner of Greene and Tompkins avenues just before 1:30 a.m. on July 20, according to the NYPD.

Emergency responders took Russell to Kings County Hospital, where he died a day later, officials said.

The victim told police he had been exercising inside the park when he was approached by a group of men, an NYPD spokesman said.

Russell told officials that he started to walk away when he was shot, police added.

A motive for the fatal shooting is unknown, according to police, and the investigation is ongoing.
