The Highest Paying Jobs in NYC, According to One Survey

While many of us are scraping by, there are plenty of people working in this city who are raking in major dough. Job listings site Glassdoor took the salary listings submitted by its users to present a list of the top 15 highest-paying jobs in the city and their median base salaries. Take this list with a giant grain of salt, allow yourself a moderate amount of self-pity and learn what a UX specialist is at the same time.

General Counsel — Salary: $168,000

On Glassdoor, general counsel often describes an attorney working for the legal department of a company. The job of general counsel is to serve as one of the senior business leaders in the company and ensure that they are operating legally. This can be done by working with other departments like insurance and risk management and human resources on issues regarding intellectual property, ethics and business compliance. 

Solutions Architect — Salary: $130,000

A solutions architect works in IT, fielding questions and issues with a company's service from clients. They then try to find solutions for the concerns, questions and problems that are discovered by paying customers. 

Clinical Pharmacist — Salary: $115,000

A clinical pharmacist works directly with health care professionals to get the correct medication and dosage to patients. They are often in hospitals, clinics and other health care centers. 

Data Scientist — Salary: $111,760

Data scientists perform deep data analysis to serve the purposes of both the business and technical sides of a company. Large companies often have competing agendas, so the data scientist must help align tech team with other teams and make sure that everything stays organized.  

Controller — Salary: $100,025

A controller can play a wide range of financial roles in a company. Many of their duties range from that of a CFO, to other tasks like bookkeeping. They can create budgets, manage executive payroll, and even do inventory overview. 

Software Engineer — Salary: $100,000

A software engineer assists in designing the operating systems and networks for a company. They also test the systems and make sure that they meet the company's needs. The engineers often have to be proficient with different coding languages like COBOL and Java. 

Mobile Developer — Salary: $95,000

Because of the prevalence of mobile technology in personal and professional life, mobile developers often make apps for a variety companies. They focus on user experience (known in the industry as "UX") and try to find ways for clients to access company information and websites across different platforms. 

Physician Assistant — Salary: $87,000

A physician assistant works closely with doctors to treat small wounds, check a patient's medical history, and help splint some injuries. They work within a variety of settings and often refer people to the correct type of doctor or clinic for their needs.

UX Designer — Salary: $86,328

A UX designer focuses on the user experience of a website. They set up the outline of a website and how it's supposed to work. Their job is to be sure that future users and clients can easily find what they are looking for on a website so that the flow of information runs smoothly. 

► Programmer Analyst — Salary: $80,000

Programmer analysts work with scientific, financial, or engineering systems and customize them to the needs of their employer and the company that they work with. They also test software and come up with solutions for any problems that come up with the systems.  

QA Manager — Salary: $80,000

A QA manager is in charge of quality assurance for a company. They usually work with banks, service industries and many other workplaces to be sure that customer service standards are met. 

Registered Nurse — Salary: $77,940

Nurses have several responsibilities and work in all sorts of environments like nursing homes, clinics, shelters and even prisons. Apart from giving care and helping different kinds of patients, they also give health education and counseling.   

Business Analyst — Salary: $76,131

Business analyst is a catch-all title for a worker with several tasks to go over throughout their workday, including communicating with various departments within a company in hopes of finding solutions for any operational issues.

Systems Administrator — Salary: $75,000

A systems administrator's job is to oversee the IT systems in a company. They ensure that all systems run smoothly and fix any bugs that might disrupt workflow. 

Physical Therapist — Salary: $74,608

A physical therapist can diagnose physical issues and helps patient avoid permanent disabilities through stretches and other exercises. They also administer therapies to alleviate pain and help restore function to limbs after injuries or surgery.
