75-Year-Old Woman's Home Burgled While She's in Backyard, Police Say

BOERUM HILL — An elderly woman's home was broken into on a recent Sunday evening while she was in her backyard, police said. 

An unknown number of people entered the 75-year-old victim's Bergen Street apartment between Court and Smith streets through the unlocked front door July 3 between 8 and 8:30 p.m., according to the police report.

The stolen property included a pocketbook and a $400 Nikon camera. The pocketbook was later discovered on the street by a stranger, but five credit cards, a driver's license and a MetroCard were missing.

Other notable crimes in the 84th Precinct, according to police, include: 

► A woman's tote bag was stolen from the back of her chair while she was eating at Bareburger in Cobble Hill on July 5 between 1 and 2 p.m. The stolen property also included a Clare V. wallet, a Contax T2 camera, a pocket knife, a jacket, cash and cards.

► A 65-year-old man was assaulted by a group of three or four men on Joralemon Street around 11:15 p.m. July 6. One of the men in the group punched the victim in the face, breaking his $800 glasses and injuring his left eye.

► A 1999 white Mercedes Benz parked on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill was stolen July 10 between 10:45 a.m. and 3 p.m.
