TOMPKINSVILLE — A security guard at a Staten Island nursing home slapped an 83-year-old resident with Alzheimer's in the face, prosecutors said.
Michael Adagba, 55, hit the woman inside the Verrazano Nursing Home, at 100 Castleton Ave., on Friday at about 7:30 p.m., causing her to fall to the floor, prosecutors said.
The fall caused swelling and bruising to the woman's face, head and left side of her body and she was taken to Richmond University Medical Center for treatment, prosecutors said.
Adagba was arrested and charged with assault and harassment at his Saturday arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.
His lawyer, Joshua Benjamin, said Adagba worked at the nursing home for nine years, hasn't been arrested before and denied the charges made by prosecutors.
Adagba was released without bail but has an order of protection issued against him and is due back in court on Sept. 22, according to online court records.
