Man Arrested in Gates Avenue Fatal Shooting, Police Say

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A Brooklyn man was arrested for fatally shooting a man at a Bedford-Stuyvesant building in April, police said.

Christopher Chandler, 34, was charged with murdering 45-year-old Kenric Tomlin, officials said Tuesday.

Tomlin, of Crown Heights, was gunned down on the second floor of 940 Gates Ave. near Patchen Avenue on April 21, police said.

He was struck by several bullets and pronounced dead at Woodhull Medical Center, according to the NYPD.

The connection between the two and a motive was not immediately clear, an NYPD spokesman said.

Officials received a tip that led them to New Jersey, where they found Chandler on Monday, police said.

Chandler pleaded not guilty, according to court records. He was ordered held without bail and is due to return to court on Sept. 1, records show.

In 2007, he served five years in prison for robbery, then returned to prison in 2014 on an attempted burglary charge, according to state records.

Attorney information for Chandler was not immediately available.
