SOUTH BRONX — Precincts in the South Bronx will be getting some new commanding officers for the second summer in a row.

Deputy Inspector Martine Materasso, who previously headed up the 41st Precinct in Hunts Point and Longwood, has moved over to the 44th Precinct, which covers neighborhoods including Concourse and Highbridge.

Materasso had been leading the 41st Precinct since the summer of 2014, and she will be replaced there by Capt. Louis DeCeglie, who previously worked in the Bronx Gang Squad.

Materasso is replacing Inspector Brian Mullen at the 44th Precinct, who has moved to Patrol Boro Bronx, police said. His exact position there is unclear.

South Bronx precincts received multiple new commanding officers last summer as well, with Capt. James Ryan replacing Deputy Inspector Steven Ortiz in the 42nd Precinct and Inspector Carlos Valdez replacing Deputy Inspector Lorenzo Johnson in the 40th Precinct.

Crime is slightly down overall in both the 41st and 44th Precincts as of June 5 compared to last year, although grand larcenies are up in the 44, and rapes, felony assaults and auto thefts are up in the 41, according to the NYPD.
