MEATPACKING DISTRICT — The architects behind a redesign of an entire block of Gansevoort Street are set to go before the Landmarks Preservation Committee with a new plan on Tuesday.

The LPC told BKSK Architects in February that their plan for the south side of Gansevoort between Ninth Avenue and Washington Street was too "fussy" and not true enough to the historic tenement architecture they called upon in their presentation.

Their application, featuring their new designs, is posted on the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation's website.

GVSHP is urging people to attend the Tuesday hearing even though the public will not be allowed to speak. Executive Director Andrew Berman, and organizers from the group Save Gansevoort, promised to provide signs and stickers so people can convey to the LPC their disapproval of the project, even as its newly designed to be shorter and less elaborate.

The developer behind the project was confident in the new design.

“This neighborhood has not one, but many histories, and this project is an opportunity to tell the complete story of its evolution over the past 130 years," said developer Jared Epstein of Aurora Capital Associates.

"We are proud to put forth a plan that will connect New Yorkers to these great, lost periods in the history of the Meatpacking District, and appreciate the input of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, nearby residents and other stakeholders that helped shape this into the best possible vision for this community,” he continued.
