BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A man robbed a DeKalb Avenue deli at gunpoint, taking off with cash and an employee’s car keys after he was unable to open the register, police said.

The suspect entered the New Amsterdam Deli and Grocery at 463 DeKalb Ave. near Kent Avenue around 7 p.m. on May 22, brandishing a black gun and demanding that all the customers get down on the floor, according to the NYPD.

He went behind the counter and tried to open the store’s register but, after failing, instead demanded money and car keys from a worker, officials said.

He fled the deli with $2,000 and the keys, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The robber, who police describe as about 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds, was last seen wearing all black with a hood and white sneakers.

No injuries were reported. Workers at the store were not immediately available for comment.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
