PARK SLOPE — A green thumb's plans wilted when a thief snatched a bag full of gardening supplies from outside a Sterling Place apartment recently, according to a police report.
The victim left the garden gear on the sidewalk outside his home near Flatbush Avenue while he dashed inside the house to unlock the door on April 9 about 9 p.m., according to the report.
While he was inside, someone swiped the bag, which held pansies, a watering can, a flower pot, a trellis, a bush, potato seeds and a planter. The victim had purchased the items from Lowe's for about $180 earlier in the day, the report stated.
Other recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with all details from police reports:
► A 15-year-old boy was arrested after he snatched a cellphone from a woman on a subway platform at the Atlantic Avenue station on April 11 at 3:20 p.m. The woman chased the teen to the mezzanine level, where he fell down and handed the phone to an accomplice. A passer-by caught the thief.
► A 39-year-old man was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon on April 15 about 8:15 p.m. after he was pulled over for failing to signal a lane change on Fourth Avenue and police spotted an illegal knife clipped to his pants.
► A 24-year-old man was arrested on a forgery charge after he tried to cash a money order that had already been cashed at the post office on Ninth Street and Fifth Avenue on April 15 about 2:40 p.m.
► The wheels were stolen off a bike parked on Prospect Place between Carlton and Vanderbilt avenues on April 12.
► A 31-year-old man was arrested for criminal possession of marijuana after he was spotted with a "marijuana cigar" in public view on the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Pacific Street on April 13 at about 6:50 p.m.
Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 25 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 190 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and April 17, 2016 and 253 major crimes during that period in 2015.
