HUNTS POINT — Coffee lovers in Hunts Point will have to wait a little longer for a new cafe in their neighborhood to open up.

Birch Coffee and celebrated local advocate Majora Carter's tech company StartUp Box had originally planned to hold the grand opening for Birch Coffee's new cafe at 866 Hunts Point Ave. on April 19, but the event has since been postponed.

There is no definitive new opening date for the coffee shop yet, but organizers said getting up and running took longer than planned and they are hoping it will be ready for business in early or mid-May.

Birch Coffee has multiple store locations throughout New York City in neighborhoods including the West Village and the Upper East Side, and its location in Hunts Point will be the latest in a string of new coffee shops that have come to the South Bronx, including a cafe in Mott Haven called Filtered Coffee and a Starbucks that recently opened across from the Bronx Hall of Justice.
