HUNTS POINT — The recent coffee explosion in the South Bronx will continue on April 19, when the new Birch Coffee will have its grand opening in Hunts Point.

The cafe will be located at 866 Hunts Point Ave. and is a partnership between Birch Coffee and celebrated local advocate Majora Carter's technology company StartUp Box. Organizers are planning an open house party from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 19 to celebrate its opening.

Birch Coffee opened its first store in October 2009 and now has multiple locations throughout New York City, including in the West Village and on the Upper East Side.

The new cafe in Hunts Point will be the latest in a string of coffeehouses that have recently opened in the South Bronx.

Filtered Coffee held its grand opening in Mott Haven earlier in April, and a Starbucks recently opened up across the street from the Bronx Hall of Justice.

The Bronx Museum of the Arts also opened a cafe at their building this fall, while the Italian bakery Palombo opened up a branch by Yankee Stadium over the summer.
