Expect Multi-Night Closures on Henry Hudson Parkway to Repair Wall: DOT

By William Mathis | April 6, 2016 4:39pm | Updated on April 6, 2016 7:10pm

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS — Drivers on the Henry Hudson Parkway should expect closures on the northbound side through Sunday to facilitate emergency repairs to a retaining wall at 125th Street, the NYC Department of Transportation announced Wednesday evening.

Lanes will be closed from West 110th Street to West 127th Street on the northbound side at the following times:

• From 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 to 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 7
• From 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 to 7 a.m. on Friday, April 8
• From 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 9
• From 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 to 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 10

At least one northbound lane will remain open at all times, according to the DOT, but motorists should anticipate the following detours:

• Riverside Drive and West End Avenue will be used as a detour for traffic due to the closure of the 96th Street entrance ramp to the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway.
• The 125th Street exit ramp off the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway will be used as a detour for traffic.

A northbound lane of the parkway near 125th Street was closed for much of the day Wednesday as crews worked on the retaining wall, a source told DNAinfo New York. The core structure of the wall remains solid, but the city's Parks Department — which maintains the wall — is investigating the underlying cause of the damage.

The decorative veneer will be removed, which was built in 1930, to ensure public safety, city Parks Department spokeswoman Crystal Howard said.
