Driver Crashes Into Pedestrian on Village Sidewalk Then Leaves Scene: NYPD

WEST VILLAGE — A driver mounted a West Village sidewalk and hit a pedestrian last week before fleeing the scene, police said.

The driver was in a dark-colored SUV that hit the pedestrian about 9:39 p.m. on March 4 while the man was walking westbound on Christopher Street, near the PATH station, police said.

After hitting the 40-year-old, the driver fled north on Greenwich Street before officers arrived, police said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and treated for injuries to his torso, police said.

Police said the driver had a New York license plate that included "GSP." They obtained the above surveillance video in the hopes that someone will recognize the car and report the driver.

The NYPD asks that anyone with information call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
