MOTT HAVEN — A Bronx straphanger was stabbed in the chest on a subway platform during a fight with two men, police said.

The attack took place on Feb. 19 around 5:35 p.m. on the northbound platform for the 2 and 5 trains inside the E. 149th Street-3rd Avenue subway stop, where the 23-year-old victim got into a dispute with two other men, according to the NYPD.

One of the suspects then took out a sharp object and stabbed him in the chest with it, police said.

EMS took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the NYPD.

Officers have described the attacker as a roughly 45-year-old man with a cane who stands between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 190 pounds and wears eyeglasses, a black skull cap and a gray waist length jacket.

They described the second suspect as a man between 20 and 25 years old who stands between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, weights between 150 and 165 pounds and wears black jeans, a black skull cap and a black waist length jacket.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton recently announced that straphangers would start seeing more officers underground in the wake of a spate of slashings that have been occurring on subways and on the streets.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
