SOUTH BRONX — A 16-year-old girl who attends South Bronx Preparatory School was raped on Thursday by one of her classmates during a field trip upstate, according to state police and reports.

The victim had gone for a swim in the pool at the Pinegrove Family Dude Ranch in Kerhonkson when a group of male teens pushed her into a bathroom and locked her in, which is where the assault took place, according to News 12.

Police charged one of her classmates with rape, and the victim requested to leave South Bronx Preparatory and will start attending a new school on Monday, News 12 reported.

The suspect was arraigned on Thursday, and bail was set at $5,000, state police said.

Officials from the Department of Education said they were working closely with police to investigate allegations of a horrifying incident that occurred during a school field trip.

Pinegrove Family Dude Ranch and South Bronx Preparatory School did not respond to requests for comment.
