Le Botaniste, an apothecary-inspired restaurant, serves healthy, fresh fare that is 99 percent organic and uses no animal products, from dishes like “dirty noodle soup,” with free-range tofu and ginger garlic sauce or the “Tibetan Mama” rice bowl with coconut/peanut curry sauce and steamed greens. Even its wines are natural with few or no added sulfites.
Aunt Jake’s, 151 Mulberry St., Little Italy

From the chef and owner of nearby Mulberry Project and Greenwich Project comes Aunt Jake’s Italian Specialties, a two-story counter-service eatery serving up six different kinds of homemade pastas and sauces daily, to eat-in cafe-style or take out. Entrees range in price from $9 to $15 and the kitchen serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner is served 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Cipollina, a gourmet Italian market, which opened in Forest Hills in December, recently started serving soups and sandwiches, in addition to a large selection of coffees and pastries. Patrons can grab lunch and dessert to go or enjoy their meal at the store’s seating area. Cipollina serves different soups each day.

Hotel Chantelle management just opened up The Regal, a gourmet twist on the late night, All American diner. Until 2 a.m. on Wednesdays and 5 a.m. from Thursday to Sunday, they’ll serve gourmet American fare — burgers, honey bourbon hot wings, fried Brussels sprouts and pickles — alongside scrumptious cocktails.

The husband and wife duo behind The Mermaid Inn, Danny Abrams and Cindy Smith, have opened a new pizzeria next door to their popular uptown seafood spot. In addition to serving up Neapolitan-style pizzas from a wood-fired oven, there are pasta and meat dishes and creative antipasti options, such as their fried potatoes with capers, scallions and lemon yogurt.

Dig in to local oysters, sustainably-caught fish and shrimp that’s not filled with preservatives at this new 32-seat seafood restaurant where the emphasis is on food that’s “good for the planet.” There’s also a no tipping policy meant to ensure that servers get paid a living wage. The menu includes raw oysters, seafood boil pots with crab, and pan-fried prawns over mascarpone polenta with seasonal greens.

While not exactly new, longtime neighborhood favorite Sage General Store reopened with a new concept, new menu items and a new name. Now called the Sage Roadhouse, the eatery offers some of its old favorites, like its mac and cheese, as well as new dishes like a lamb shank lasagna. It also has a full bar and started running a weekly open mic night on Mondays.
