EAST HARLEM — A Target employee stole more than $6,000 worth of Apple Watches by hiding them in a freezer and taking them home when he thought no one was looking, prosecutors charge.

Jernell Johnson, 30, is accused of taking a dozen watches between Jan. 9 and Jan. 27 from the East River Plaza store, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

Investigators saw Johnson on surveillance video take the watches from a stock room and place them inside of a walk-in fridge. He would then walk back into the fridge and take the watches before signing out for his lunch break, prosecutors said.

Johnson was arrested Friday. He has been charged with grand larceny and was released without bail, according to the criminal complaint.

His lawyer was not immediately available to comment on the case.
