UPPER EAST SIDE — The developer of a new 521-foot-tall luxury condo tower on East 88th Street unveiled renderings of what will be one of the neighborhood's tallest buildings.
The 50-story builing at 180 E. 88th St. near Third Avenue will include private terraces, vaulted archways and bronze detail with a "pre-war aesthetic" throughout the exterior, according to developer DDG.
The renderings were first reported by Curbed.
Though the tower is still under construction and isn't expected to be completed until 2018, its apartments were put on the market this week, with prices ranging from $3.9 million for a two-bedroom to $15.5 million apartment for a four-bedroom.
A wine room, children's playroom, a game room, basketball court and turf field are some of the amenities that are expected to be included in the building.
Construction began in the summer of 2015 and once it is completed it will be the one of the tallest buildings on the Upper East Side. The height of the building has been a concern among local preservationists and community members since the project got city approval in June 2015.
Out of fear of similar super tall towers encroaching on the neighborhood, local Community Board 6 has also been fighting to put a height limit on another project at 2 Sutton Place, where developer Bauhouse Group is planning to build a 900-foot-tall residential tower.
Neighbors and elected officials banded together to file an application with the Department of City Planning to rezone the Sutton Place area in hopes of putting a cap on heights and requiring developers to include on-site affordable housing in all new developments.
