CROWN HEIGHTS — Police in the neighborhood are looking for a woman they say helped fleece an 82-year-old out of $10,000 by promising to help find her an apartment.

Investigators said two women and a man met with the 82-year-old victim at her Park Place home in Crown Heights on Oct. 29 of last year and assured her they could find her a new place to live if she forked over cash.

The three scammers then drove her to an HSBC bank at the corner of East 16th Street and Kings Highway where she withdrew $10,000 from her bank account. She handed the cash over to one of the women in the group, who then left with the money.

The police department released a photo on Tuesday of the woman in question inside the bank. In the surveillance footage image she is wearing a multi-colored shirt and a dark zip-up jacket and is holding a white envelope.

Police have not named the women as a suspect, but describe her and the two others involved in the theft as “persons of interest.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
