FORDHAM HEIGHTS — An emotionally troubled mother lived for days in a Bronx apartment with the corpse of her daughter before neighbors who noticed a smell called police, according to the NYPD

The body of Patrice Sharpe, 34, was found hanging from a bedroom door in her apartment at Walton Avenue and East 184th Street on Sunday evening while her mother sat nearby, police said.

The mother, Sandra Sharpe, 57, is not a suspect in her daughter's death, but police believe she may have emotional problems, given that she did not call for help.

Although Sharpe's death is still under investigation, no criminality is suspected and it appears that the woman committed suicide, according to the NYPD.

Tenant Nayari Baez said Sharpe's mother had insisted her daughter was not dead on Sunday.

"She tried to go in and the police held her back," Baez said. "She looked calm. She kept saying, 'My daughter is alive.'"
