UPPER WEST SIDE — The owner of Calle Ocho is turning a deli into a Latin-themed sports bar and restaurant, he said.

Jeff Kadish, who also owns Cafe Clover, BLT Prime NYC and BLT Steak DC, is heading the new restaurant at 573 Columbus Ave., at West 88th Street.

The space, which formerly housed a deli called Newsday Market which offered a hot and cold food bar, Kadish plans to transform the space into a small restaurant, he said.

He aims to create a "Latin-themed restaurant and sports bar," where there are TVs playing sports games at the bar, but there are also places to sit and eat, he said.

Kadish is still tossing around names for the new spot.

Though it will have a sports bar vibe, the provisional menu boasts gourmet dishes like "cuttlefish and foie gras," remarked Community Board 7 board member Michelle Parker at a meeting to review its liquor license application.

CB 7 approved the restaurant for a full liquor license, including liquor as well as wine and beer, on  Wednesday night.

There's no opening date set yet — a full kitchen needs to be constructed and the space is getting renovated — but the hours when it does open will be Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from noon to midnight, said Kadish.
