WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Locals may to leave their cars at home this holiday weekend.

Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane on the Harlem River Drive Connector Ramp will close this Martin Luther King, Jr Day weekend for rehabilitation work, the Department of Transportation announced.

The closure will start at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, and run through 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18.

The ramp, also known as the Trans-Manhattan Expressway, is the section of roadway along Route 1/I-95 between the George Washington Bridge and the Alexander Hamilton Bridge that connects the expressway to the Harlem River Drive.

The DOT said it will install message signs and traffic control agents to direct traffic to alternate routes.

Drivers heading southbound from the George Washington Bridge can use the southbound Henry Hudson Parkway to head into Manhattan, or continue east over the Alexander Hamilton Bridge to the southbound Major Deegan Expressway and use the Macombs Dam, Madison Avenue or Third Avenue bridges to access the Harlem River Drive.

Drivers heading northbound to the George Washington Bridge can either continue on the Harlem River Drive toward Dyckman Street, then drive south on Broadway to 179th Street, or exit at the Eighth Avenue/W. 155th Street exit and take Amsterdam Avenue northbound.
