BROOKLYN — Throwing out a Christmas tree is a dreaded post-holiday chore, and while New Yorkers have a few options for its disposal, the city is offering a green way to get rid of them this weekend.

MulchFest 2016, hosted by the Parks and Sanitation Departments, will take place Jan. 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in parks throughout Brooklyn.

During the event, residents can hand over their trees and take home a bag of wood chips in return. Mulch can be used to nourish plants in backyards or street beds.

Last year, more than 30,000 trees were recycled, the Parks Department said.

The event will be happening at seven locations in Brooklyn. Here's where to find them:

► Cobble Hill Park

► Fort Greene Park

► Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick

► Marine Park

► Owl's Head Park in Bay Ridge

► McCarren Park in Williamsburg

► Prospect Park at Third Street and Prospect Park West

► Prospect Park at Park Circle and Parkside Avenue
