DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — The MetroTech Business Improvement District is looking to open a new food, beer and wine concession stand at Willoughby Plaza.
The MetroTech BID put out a Request for Proposals on Dec. 18 searching for a company to operate the concession stand at the plaza, which sits on Willoughby Avenue between Pearl and Adams Streets.
The BID is looking for a company with an established customer base that has at least three years of experience operating a profitable food and/or drink business, and that can draw in more customers to the plaza.
The 14,000-square-foot plaza sees 4,000 pedestrians per hour during peak hours.
The company that is chosen would be able to operate at the plaza for two years under a sublicense agreement with the BID, which has a concession license agreement with the Department of Transportation. The company would be able to renew the agreement for two additional one-year terms.
The concession stand will not be allowed to install permanent infrastructure, but will be able to bring in moveable structures without wheels. It can provide tables and chairs, with approval of the DOT, as long as it makes sure to store them on-site each night.
The stand will not be able to sell merchandise other than food or drink without approval from the BID and the DOT.
Prospective companies can attend a pre-proposal conference at the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership at 1 MetroTech Center at 10 a.m. on Jan. 15. The meeting will include a site visit to the plaza.
Any questions can be submitted by email no later than Jan. 22 by 11:59 p.m. Proposals are due Feb. 12 by 11:59 p.m.
