UPPER EAST SIDE — A man wielding a gun robbed the 86th Street H&M on Saturday after the shop had closed for the night, according to the NYPD.

The suspect entered the clothing store at 11:23 p.m. Saturday night before employees could lock up and took out a firearm, police said.

He escorted the employees to the back of the store and forced them all to the ground and then demanded that the store's manager put money from the registers in a plastic shopping bag, police said.

After the manager placed two money bags, totaling $8,700, into the shopping bag, the suspect fled the store, going east on East 86th Street, police said.

The suspect was 5-foot-7, roughly 150 pounds and was wearing a gray skull cap and gray overcoat, police said. The firearm was silver.

H&M officials said no one was hurt during the robbery.

"Our first and most important concern is that all our employees are safe and unharmed at this time," a spokesperson for H&M said. "A police investigation is underway and in which we are fully supporting."

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
