RED HOOK — Brooklyn residents looking to enroll in the city's free municipal identification program won't have to travel far next month.

A pop-up enrollment center is opening at the Red Hook Justice Center, at 88 Visitation Place., from Jan. 5 to Jan. 29. To make an appointment, visit nyc.gov/idnyc or call 311.

The center will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Tuesday and Thursday, the hours will be from noon to 8 p.m.

The site will be closed on Jan. 18 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Jan. 29, the final day to enroll at the pop-up, it will close at noon.

City officials recently announced that New Yorkers could enroll in the free IDNYC program until the end of next year.

The identification card offers free access to one-year memberships at 40 cultural institutions in the city, some of which were recently added for 2016, including the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Opera and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

The card also offers discounts for other entertainment and recreation such as movie tickets, Broadway shows, New York Theatre Ballet, YMCA and Citi Bike.

It can also be used to open a bank or credit union account and can be linked to library cards in New York, Brooklyn and Queens public systems.

However, it does not serve as a form of ID for bars.

Residents above the age of 14 who live in the five boroughs can apply for IDNYC.
