HELL'S KITCHEN — A car thief used a woman’s parking garage receipt to drive off in her Kia after she left it inside a garage on Ninth Avenue, police said.

The victim, a 47-year-old New Jersey woman, parked the $26,000 silver 2015 Kia Soul inside a garage at 515 Ninth Ave. over the weekend and returned for the car on Sunday around 5 p.m., police said. But when she arrived at the garage, she realized her parking receipt was missing.

The woman explained her predicament to a parking garage employee, who told her the keys for the car had already been given to someone else who had driven away, she told police.

She reported the missing car to police, who conducted a canvass of the surrounding location but turned up nothing, police said.

She also lost a handful of items that were inside the car, including her driver’s license, credit cards, bank account checkbook, keys to a Ford Focus and house keys.

Police reviewed surveillance footage of the interior and the exterior of the payment booths showing anyone who exits the garage but have not made an arrest, they said.
