BATTERY PARK CITY — A man and woman shoplifted $395 worth of gum from a Liberty Street Rite Aid, and threatened to stab an employee before running out of the store, police said.

The pair was placing a variety of gum, including 24 Trident spearmint packs and 31 packs of Dentyne, into the man's book bag at about 2 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

When a store employee made eye contact with the man, he took out a box cutter and said: "Do you want to get stabbed?", according to a police report.

The thieves proceeded to run out of the 226 Liberty St. shop with 109 packs of gum in tow, police said.

Rite Aid did not immediately return request for comment.
