2 Off-Duty FDNY Workers Arrested Over Weekend, Police Say

By Aidan Gardiner | December 14, 2015 9:43am

THE BRONX — Two off-duty FDNY employees were arrested over the weekend, including one who got into a fistfight following a car crash on Sunday afternoon and another who was violent during SantaCon on Saturday, according to police.

Damian Lapene, who works for the fire department, was arrested Sunday afternoon after he and another man got into a car crash and then proceeded to get into a fight, police said.

Lapene and the other driver, whose name and age were not released, got into an accident somewhere in the 45th Precinct, which covers Throgs Neck and City Island, an NYPD spokesman said.

The spokesman did not have the exact location of the car crash.

Lapene and the other man got out of their vehicles and started arguing, but the verbal spat turned physical, police said.

Lapene was arrested on assault charges, police said.

The other driver was also arrested, but an NYPD spokesman did not have further information.

The arrest came a day after EMS worker Robalina Gianella, 30, was arrested in the East Village, police said. He hurled a mug of beer at a bartender while dressed as St. Nick during Saturday's SantaCon, according to the New York Post.
