WINDSOR TERRACE — A sharp-eyed resident helped police nab a man who had been stealing just-delivered packages off doorsteps in Windsor Terrace, police said.

Police arrested Robert Williams, 34, on Wednesday after a local recognized him from a wanted poster and called 911, said Capt. Tommy Ng, commanding officer of the 72nd Precinct.

Williams was arraigned Friday on charges of burglary and trespassing, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

He was arrested after he was spotted in the entryway of a building on Greenwood Avenue and Sherman Street, according to a criminal complaint. Williams had rung several doorbells in the building to get buzzed into the front door, the complaint stated.

Police had been on the hunt for Williams since late November. The 72nd Precinct tweeted a photo of him and neighbors posted a homemade wanted poster after packages were stolen on East Third Street between Greenwood and Vanderbilt avenues, a resident told DNAinfo New York.

Locals even caught the thief in the act on video, which they posted on YouTube as a warning to neighbors.

The police officer who arrested Williams was the 72nd Precinct's Cop of the Year last year, according to the local blog KARMA Brooklyn, which first reported the arrest.
