BEDFORD-STUYEVSANT — There’s a new hangout spot in Bed-Stuy with the opening of an eatery and bar on Marcus Garvey Boulevard.

Tree House BK, a new bar and grill on Marcus Garvey Boulevard near Halsey Street, aims to be a “neighborhood spot” that serves “bar food with a twist,” according to its co-owner.

The area’s new addition dishes out quick bites like coconut curry codfish patties and crab cakes with corn, along with grilled entrees that include beef skewers with tamarind and cilantro and jerk baby back ribs.

Co-owner Bintou Ndaw brings Senegalese flavors from her home country as well as a fusion of Asian and West Indian-inspired meals, she said.

The chef aims to serve healthy bar food with more grilled dishes as opposed to fried and plenty of organic vegetables, she added.

Located at 417 Marcus Garvey Blvd., Tree House BK officially opened the first week of December and takes the space of former lounge Marcus Vineyard.

The décor is nature-centered and dishes are served in wooden bowls and plates with banana leaves. The eatery’s name is inspired by the owners’ backgrounds, Ndaw said.

“We are from countries where we’re close to nature — Jamaica, Africa, Trinidad and down south,” she added. “We are all close to our roots in general.”

A large backyard provides seating for diners and special events and Tree House BK hosts a DJ on Saturdays.

The bar’s selection includes a variety of cocktails, house-made apple cider and craft beers to offer “more than just regular Heineken,” Ndaw said.

The co-owner said she hopes Tree House BK’s opening on the growing commercial corridor will help boost the boulevard.

“We really want to work on the Marcus Garvey area that was underserved by businesses,” she said.

“It’s a neighborhood feel where we want to welcome the change as we all live together, where everyone will say hi to you and people come who work and live in the area.”

Tree House BK is open Monday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., 417 Marcus Garvey Blvd.
