VIDEO: Upper West Side Businesses We Lost in 2015

UPPER WEST SIDE — A number of stores and restaurants that residents have counted on for decades closed this year, along with favorites that had a shorter shelf life. 

DNAinfo New York took a look back at some of the neighborhood businesses we lost this year.

Ouest
2315 Broadway
Closed June 2015

The upscale restaurant closed this summer to the dismay of locals. The French and American eatery opened in 2011. Jacob's Pickles has plans to open a new venture in the space.

Himalayan Crafts
2007 Broadway
Closed August 2015

The store, which imported goods from Nepal, closed after more than 40 years in the neighborhood. 

Picholine
35 W. 64th St.
Closed September 2015

Despite having a Michelin star, Picholine closed its doors due to a rent increase, according to Eater.

Off Broadway Boutique
139 W. 72nd St.
Closed August 2015

This lively clothing store was a staple on West 72nd Street for more than 50 years, but closed after the death of its owner, Lynn Dell Cohen, the West Side Rag reported.

Tani 
2020 Broadway
Closed March 2015

The hip shoe store closed one of its two Upper West Side locations last winter.

Wine & Roses
286 Columbus Ave.
Closed September 2015

Though it underwent a renovation and won a legal battle to reopen, the rebirth was short-lived, as Jennifer Klein's wine bar closed in September, according to the West Side Rag.

Brother Jimmy's 
428 Amsterdam Ave.
Closed June 2015

Brother Jimmy's closed in mid-June and will soon become the seafood spot Crave Fishbar.

Fusha West
311 Amsterdam Ave.
Closed June 2015

The Amsterdam Avenue sushi restaurant closed this year, but the owners are opening a new hibachi venture in the former Ditch Plains space on West 82nd Street.

Cafe Ronda
249 Columbus Ave.
Closed January 2015

The 12-year-old South American restaurant announced it was closing in early January and later opened a sister restaurant, Ella Kitchen & Bar

Pizza by La Grolla
403 Amsterdam Ave.
Closed January 2015

The popular after-school and takeout pizza spot closed, and was replaced by kosher pizza joint Saba's, the West Side Rag reported.

Josie's
300 Amsterdam Ave.
Closed August 2015

A favorite for brunch and a healthier meal in the neighborhood, Josie's closed after 20 years, residents said.
