MIDTOWN — The Port Authority Bus Terminal was reopened on the busiest travel day of the year after a suspicious package was deemed harmless Wednesday night, an NYPD spokesman said.

The package was found outside the bus terminal, which is located at 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue, according to the NYPD.

Investigators were still on scene at 7:30 p.m., but the terminal and surrounding streets had been reopened.

Riders who were trying to leave New York City posted on social media that they had to evacuate the building at about 6:45 p.m.

Anshul Bhamore, 27, said he also had to evacuate his building near Port Authority.

"My friend called me and said there's something going on on the street outside. He told me to leave the office," Bhamore. "I came out of my room and I saw no one. All the lifts were off. I just found an exit and left."

Bhamore said he was not too concerned.

"I knew it's not going to be terrorists"

Tiffany Fox, 20, was arriving to the terminal on a bus when she was told the building was locked down.

“I just got off the bus from Monticello. They said on the announcement that the exits were closed," Fox said. "I had no idea what was going on.”

The M20 and M104 buses were rerouted during the investigation, according to the MTA's website.

There was no immediate information on delays to other bus lines.
