Police Shoot Man in East New York

By Aidan Gardiner | November 25, 2015 3:11pm

BROOKLYN — NYPD officers shot a man wanted on a warrant for weapon possession in an East New York basement Wednesday morning, police said.

The members of the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit descended into the basement of 430 Pine St., near Pitkin Avenue, about 7:40 a.m. when they found the 32-year-old man they believed had a firearm, NYPD officials said.

The officers were telling him what to do, but he ignored them and fled deeper into the basement, police said.

One of the police officers shot him in the lower right leg, NYPD officials said.

He was treated at Brookdale Hospital, where he's listed in stable condition, police said.

The officer who shot the man was taken to Jamaica Hospital for observation, officials said.

The suspect was taken into custody but not immediately charged, police said.

It was not immediately clear if the officers recovered any weapons from the suspect.
