FLATIRON — A popular London-based Japanese noodle chain will open its first New York location in the Flatiron across from Madison Square Park.

Wagamama, which means “naughty child” in Japanese, is set to begin construction “shortly” at 210 Fifth Ave., according Alexandra Turboff, who represented the company in negotiating its lease.

The address is the former home of Dewey’s Flatiron, which closed in 2011.

Wagamama, known for its bustling family-style cafeterias, started selling its ramen noodles in London in 1992 and now has 140 locations worldwide. Duke Street Capital, an investment firm, bought the chain in 2011 for about $350 million.

In 2010, the chain announced a roadmap for a large-scale rollout into American with plans to open 650 restaurants nationwide, according to Eater, but so far Wagamama’s only toehold is its four locations in the Boston area. New York fans of Wagamama have been left in the cold until now.

The Flatiron restaurant is set to open in the summer or fall of 2016, according to the New York Post.
